The Great Reno Balloon race is coming up, and if you’ve never been, you need to go.

Everyone needs to experience this event at least once.  Why?  Here are just a few adjectives I’ve used to describe the event…Magnificent, Breath-taking, Awe-inspiring, Surreal, Peaceful, Beautiful, and Serene.

Northern Nevada has some spectacular events, and this one is not only a Swizzle favorite, but a personal favorite. Here are 5 reasons why.

  1. Let’s start with Dawn Patrol. Yes, it’s EARLY in the morning.  Not just a little early, but so early some people come in their pajamas and freshly generated bed-head. However, if you’ve never seen Dueling Banjoes set to an awesome light show, this is your chance. Bring a blanket and snuggle in with your loved ones for this beautiful scene.

  1. After Dawn Patrol there is a short lull, and it’s a good time to walk around, see the vendor booths, grab breakfast, coffee or hot chocolate and CHECK OUT THE GRBR MERCH TENT, where you’ll find some really FUN merch designed and produced by SWIZZLE! The Star Spangled Banner is sung while the majority of pilots and crews begin preparations for the main event.

  1. Mass Ascension: With the sun’s arrival, the earth warms and crews begin to inflate their hot air balloons. It’s hard to describe what it’s like to walk through a giant field full of up to 85 Hot Air Balloons as they begin to inflate. It is truly MAGNIFICENT, and sometimes a crew will offer tethered rides for lucky individuals or kiddos. This event MADE FOR SPECTATORS.

  1. Photographer’s Dream: Whether you’re an amateur photographer or a professional, this GRBR event is for you. The topography of the park is such that you can climb a hill for a different perspective, or lie underneath the hot air balloons as they rise (this is very surreal). The event takes place over the course of hours, so there is plenty of opportunity to set up the shot of your dreams. Bringing a camera to this event should be a requirement.

  1. It’s FREE. Did I say FREE? Yes, the event itself is free to everyone, but even better the memories created with the family are priceless.
